In his quest to keep his best employee, and, he came to realize, most trusted confidante, Jeffrey has called upon the Listeners: Vivian and Cecile. Together they walk on the path to listening, teach Jeffrey how to implement the L.I.S.T.E.N.™ tenets to improve communication not only at work, but also at home (where Jeffrey is also trying to fend off an impending ultimatum).

Throughout their time together, Vivian and Cecile, the founders of a leadership development company, demonstrate the strength of the Listening 2by2™ leader and communication development business model they have taught others to implement.

Challenged in the middle of the sessions by a pandemic which demanded the use of technology to communicate – adding an additional layer to the importance of using L.I.S.T.E.N. – they adapt.

Jeffrey continues to evolve and remember the leader he used to be and wants to introduce to those who work for him as well as his family. Ways to Talk So Your Children Will Listen and Listen to Them as They Talk

The relationship between a child and parent is, without a doubt, a very private and personal matter. The idea of giving parents instructions on how to talk with their kids never sits right. However, parents should understand that the more they talk about things, the more comfortable it will be for them. Why not talk with kids in order to make them listen to you, and why not listen to kids to make them talk?

The way parents talk to their kids has a huge impact on their ability to learn and listen. Parents need to understand that they are constant examples to their kids on how to behave and act, and talking to them fits perfectly in this matter. Normally, there are three different ways parents communicate with their kids, and the first one is the aggressive way. This usually involves yelling and putting their kids down by using attacking words. This can make children to respond in several ways, mainly through acting out, ignoring the parent’s order, yelling back, or feeling very fearful.

The second communication form is commonly seen in passive form. Parents who fall under this category mutter softly, use very cautious tones and words, and even will just walk over their children when they find them fighting. Unfortunately, when the time comes that they’re pushed to their limits, they will suddenly burst and eventually turn into an aggressive communication tone. The last and the third way that parents use to communicate with their children is the assertive way. So far, this is the most perfect way to communicate with kids at all time and levels. Assertive communication is firm, confident, warm, positive, clear, and consistent. Assertive communication with kids is a skill, and it shows to kids that dad and mom know what they are about to say and will make them eventually listen.

Why Don’t We Listen Better? Communicating & Connecting in Relationships

We may think we’re good listeners, but not many of us are. When others talk, we focus on what we think, rather than what they are trying to say. Few of us know how to use the power of listening to improve life for ourselves or those around us. Dr. Jim Petersen says that good communication uses the same skills in a professional office, on a date, in a corporate board room, or at a kitchen table. This book can help you learn to listen your way to better relationships, from intimate to casual or work-related.

Why Should I Listen?

When children are caught up by the excitement of the moment, they sometimes forget to listen—and the result might be an accident or an avoidable mistake. This book helps them understand the importance of listening to parents and teachers. Kids will be attracted by the amusing color illustrations on every page, and parents and teachers will appreciate the note at the back of each book offering further suggestions on answering children’s questions.

Wired to Listen?

Too often we think kids don’t listen. The surprising news is that they are paying attention. In Wired to Listen, Dr. Muffie Waterman presents research, classroom practice, and family stories to make it clear that what we say to kids and how we say it matters. From infancy through the tumultuous teenage years, our words are shaping what they believe about the world and themselves. You will learn: • How small shifts in wording can have a big impact • How questions can prompt kids to regulate themselves • How to find a more positive framing to help kids become more capable • How to talk openly about life’s difficult issues With simple ideas to start trying right away, Wired to Listen offers parents and teachers an inspiring, practical guide plus the most important reminder—what we say matters to the children in our lives.

Your Brain is Always Listening

The #1 New York Times bestselling author and psychiatrist Daniel G. Amen, MD, equips you with powerful weapons to battle the unseen dragons that are breathing fire on your emotional brain, driving unhealthy thoughts and behaviors, and robbing you of joy and contentment.
Your brain is always listening and responding to hidden influences, many of them harmful. Unless you recognize and deal with them, they can steal your happiness, spoil your relationships, and sabotage your health.

You’re Not Listening

Despite living in a world where technology allows constant digital communication and opportunities to connect, it seems no one is really listening or even knows how. And it’s making us lonelier, more isolated, and less tolerant than ever before. A listener by trade, New York Times contributor Kate Murphy wanted to know how we got here.

In this always illuminating and often humorous deep dive, Murphy explains why we’re not listening, what it’s doing to us, and how we can reverse the trend. She makes accessible the psychology, neuroscience, and sociology of listening while also introducing us to some of the best listeners out there (including a CIA agent, focus group moderator, bartender, radio producer, and top furniture salesman). Equal parts cultural observation, scientific exploration, and rousing call to action that’s full of practical advice, You’re Not Listening is to listening what Susan Cain’s Quiet was to introversion. It’s time to stop talking and start listening.
