Listening is no longer a soft skill. Corporations and small businesses would be wise to start investing in ways to increase their employees’ ability to listen better. Those companies that refuse make this a priority moving forward will find themselves suffering the consequences.

The average attention span is eight seconds. While an argument could be made that metrics vary across the board when coming up with this statistic, I think we can all agree that people are more distracted than ever and that our attention spans are only shrinking.

Just look around the next time you’re in a meeting; notice the phones under the table and fellow employees texting. When you are grabbing dinner, check out the tables nearby. Is everyone on their phone? Don’t get me wrong, technology is great. It’s the way we use it that’s killing our focus and our business too.
